Road signs around the country are often poorly translated. The staff of Dréimire – Language Services calls this kind of translation a mess as it has not been translated correctly from English into Irish. One example can be seen below.

 

It is a great frustration for the Irish language community when the Irish version of the sign cannot be interpreted and sometimes the native Irish speaker turns to read the English version to avoid ambiguity. Irish must be of the same standard as English and be understandable.

 

Look at the first example again. Please note that two words have been put together twice to save space! In this way, it is not possible to make much sense.
